Derek Steyn and Deon graduated from the University of the Orange Free State with a BSc in Quantity Surveying respectively. In 1994, Derek, and his brother Deon, started a professional quantity surveying firm, C·A·L·C Quantity Surveyors, that was appointed as the quantity surveyors responsible for the development and construction of most of the MediCross Clinics on a national footprint.

In 1995 Derek and Deon founded Calgro homes (Pty) Ltd. During his tenure at Calgro, Deon was the Chief Operating Officer, and involved in extensive projects undertaken by them whilst Derek was solely responsible for all new projects. Derek served as an Executive Director on the Board of Calgro since date of listing in. Both Deon and Derek offer strategic and mentoring consultation for Calgro M3 and remains shareholders in Calgro M3.

Sam Marais matriculated from Grey College in 1993 and went on to attend the University of the Orange Free State where he achieved a BSc Quantity Surveying degree (1998).

Sam was appointed Area Manager for the Free State office of Calgro Homes (Pty) Ltd and later managed Calgro Homes' Affordable Housing Sales and Marketing Division from 1997.

In 2002 Sam founded Proptec (Pty) Ltd. That initially focused purely on the affordable housing sector, but from 2007 focussed his strong project management skills in the sectional title residential market and has been working on numerous developments in Gauteng successfully completing numerous full- and sectional-title and affordable housing projects. He joined the Urban Dev management team in July 2019.

Gary White, a professional architect, achieved his master’s degree in Urban Design in 1993. Gary worked at Safgro (Pty) Ltd as a marketing manager from 1994, where he gained substantial experience in the affordable housing market segment and was appointed as a divisional director at Calgro Homes (Pty) Ltd in marketing and sales 1996. In 2000, Gary started his own architectural practise, Gary White and Associates (GWA & Ass).

Gary currently acts as an Urban Design Consultant for UrbanDev, with a vision to promote strategies for sustainable urban environments in Southern Africa. Gary applies the principles of new urbanism in all the urban design initiatives he drives.

Apart from consulting for Aphane View Architects and Urban Designers, Gary is a director of NEWURBAN Architects & Urban Designers. Gary received an award for excellent work by the Charter of New Urbanism, USA in 2006 for the design of the new urban community, Cabinda, in Angola and again in 2012 for the design of the new urban community, Verkykerskop, South Africa.

Gary has completed numerous projects in the housing sector as Urban Designer and/or Architect and has used his expertise on projects ranging from policy establishment, best practice research and the design and monitoring on implementations.

Douw Steyn is a professional Quantity Surveyor with a BSc in Quantity Surveying from the University of Pretoria. He worked at ESKOM as a senior Quantity Surveyor for period of 14 years, after which he joined his two brothers, Derek and Deon who already started a professional quantity surveying firm, C·A·L·C Quantity Surveyors in 1994. Douw was an integral part of Callgro and started a smaller housing and development company called DB5 Projects (Pty) Ltd in 2008. DB5 Projects has been running successfully having completed projects in areas such as Soshanguve, Jukskei View. Douw retired in 2015.
